Sobre a raça

The Irish Setter developed in Ireland in the 18th century as a bird dog that ranged widely and set game for the gun. Early dogs were often red and white; the solid red type became dominant in the 19th century, and show and working lines later diverged.

It is friendly, sociable and fun-loving, and often stays puppyish well into adulthood. It needs a lot of exercise and room to run, and its silky coat needs regular care. In an active, patient home it is an affectionate and cheerful companion, but it rarely suits a quiet, sedentary lifestyle.
