Cuidados

Temperamento

Outgoing, affectionate and playful, with a sensitive side. Usually friendly with people, though some are reserved with strangers.

Exercício

Needs a lot of daily exercise; running, cycling alongside (once mature), canicross and agility suit it well.

Cuidados com o pelo

The short coat is easy to brush, but it sheds steadily all year; a weekly rubber brush helps.

Treino

Intelligent and responsive to positive training; harsh methods backfire, and consistency is important.

Saúde

Congenital deafness is the best-known issue, so puppies should be BAER hearing tested; urinary stones linked to high uric acid and hip dysplasia also occur. Ask the breeder for results.

Exames de saúde que os criadores costumam fazer

  • Audição (BAER)
  • Ancas (HD)
  • Exame oftalmológico

Peça ao criador que lhe mostre os resultados dos pais.

Sobre a raça

The Dalmatian takes its name from Dalmatia on the Croatian coast, though much of its development happened in Britain. In the 18th and 19th centuries it trotted beside horse-drawn carriages, guarding horses and coaches, and later became a mascot of fire brigades.

It is a muscular, elegant dog with famous black or liver spots on a white coat. Living with one means plenty of exercise and company: Dalmatians are friendly, playful and full of stamina, and they can become restless or noisy if under-exercised or left alone too much. They shed more than many expect.

Sabia que…?

Dalmatian puppies are born white; their spots appear during the first weeks of life.
