Friendly, lively and outgoing, with a playful spirit and a strong will. More even-tempered than some terriers but still bold.

Exercício

About an hour of daily activity keeps it content; it enjoys hiking, agility, earthdog work and play.

Cuidados com a pelagem

Brush weekly and have the coat hand-stripped or clipped every two to three months; shedding is minimal.

Adestramento

Intelligent and quick, but can be stubborn. Use positive, varied training and work steadily on recall.

Saúde

Glaucoma, lens luxation and skin allergies are among the conditions reported in the breed. Ask the breeder for eye results on both parents.

Sobre a raça

The Welsh Terrier is one of the older British terrier breeds, used in Wales to hunt foxes, otters and badgers alongside hounds. It was first shown under its own name in the 1880s and keeps much of its working instinct.

At home it is cheerful, affectionate and generally good with children, though it can be bossy with other dogs and is keen to chase small animals. It needs exercise, mental stimulation and a secure garden. Its wiry coat sheds very little, but needs regular stripping or clipping to stay neat.
