Cuidados
Temperamento
Kuvaszok are loyal, courageous and independent. They are reserved or suspicious with strangers and take guarding seriously. They are gentle with their own household.
Exercício
Daily walks of an hour or so and room to patrol suit most adults. Long hikes and casual tracking are good outlets.
Cuidados com o pelo
Brush the coat weekly, and more often in the heavy seasonal shed. Dirt tends to fall out of the coat once dry.
Treino
Clever but independent and not inclined to obey blindly. Calm, consistent, reward-based training and broad socialisation from puppyhood are key.
Saúde
Hip and elbow dysplasia, osteochondrosis and hypothyroidism are known in the breed. Breeding dogs are usually hip and elbow screened, so ask the breeder for results.

Sobre a raça
The Kuvasz is an old Hungarian guardian breed, used to protect livestock and homesteads and, at one time, kept by Hungarian nobility. It was badly hit by the two world wars and was rebuilt from a small number of surviving dogs.
It is a large, handsome dog with a wavy white coat and a strong protective instinct. With its family it is affectionate and gentle, but it is naturally suspicious of strangers and makes its own judgements. It suits experienced owners with space, secure fencing and the patience for steady, lifelong socialisation.
Sabia que…?
The 15th-century Hungarian king Matthias Corvinus is said to have kept Kuvaszok as guard dogs.
