Opieka

Charakter

Gentle and affectionate with its family and usually easy with other dogs. Reserved but not aggressive with strangers. Very persistent on a trail.

Ruch

Needs at least an hour or two of activity daily, including some free running in safe areas. Scent trailing and long country walks suit it.

Pielęgnacja

The short, dense coat needs only a weekly brush. Check ears regularly.

Szkolenie

Sensitive and willing, but its nose often wins. Short, positive sessions and early recall practice help.

Zdrowie

Considered a healthy, hardy breed; ear infections and occasional hip dysplasia are reported. Ask the breeder for hip results of the parents.

O rasie

The Italian Hound, or short-haired Segugio Italiano, is one of Italy's oldest hunting breeds, with hounds of this type pictured in Renaissance art. It is used mainly on hare, working alone or in small groups and announcing the trail with a distinctive voice. A separate rough-haired variety is recognised as its own breed.

Away from the hunt it is gentle, affectionate and fairly quiet in the house. It still has a strong drive to follow scent and a voice to match, so it needs regular exercise, secure fencing and an owner who accepts its independent streak.

Czy wiesz, że…?

Hunters value its high, musical bark on the trail because it lets them follow where the dog is even in dense woodland.
