O rasie
The Azawakh comes from the Sahel region of Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso, where Tuareg and other nomadic peoples kept it to guard camps and hunt hare and gazelle. The breed is named after the Azawakh valley and has been recognised in Europe since the 1980s.
It is a striking, fine-boned dog with a strong attachment to its family and a natural suspicion of strangers. It is not a dog for busy, sociable households. It loves heat, dislikes cold and wet weather, and needs safe places to run and careful, early socialisation.
