Priežiūra
Temperamentas
Maremmas are independent, steady and protective. They are reserved with strangers and alert, especially after dark. With their own family and animals they are calm and affectionate.
Judėjimas
Moderate daily walks and space to patrol are enough for most adults. They are happiest with a role on a property rather than intense sport.
Kailio priežiūra
Brush the dense coat weekly, more during the heavy seasonal shed. Mud tends to drop out of the coat once dry.
Dresūra
Intelligent but bred to think for itself. Early socialisation and calm, patient, reward-based training work best; reliable recall is hard to achieve.
Sveikata
Maremmas are generally hardy; hip and elbow dysplasia and bloat are the main concerns. Breeding dogs are usually hip and elbow screened, so ask the breeder for results.

Apie veislę
The Maremma and Abruzzese Sheepdog has guarded flocks in central Italy for centuries, moving with shepherds between the lowland Maremma in winter and the Abruzzo mountains in summer. It was bred to live with livestock and to deter wolves and other predators, not to herd.
Today it is still widely used as a working guardian, including on farms abroad. It is calm, self-reliant and devoted to whatever it considers its own. It can be gentle with family, but it is wary of strangers, barks at night and does not expect to take orders. It is best suited to rural homes with experienced owners.
