Priežiūra
Temperamentas
Loyal, determined and intelligent; affectionate with family but often aloof with strangers. Can be protective and assertive with other dogs.
Judėjimas
Needs one and a half to two and a half hours of activity daily. Hunting, tracking, retrieving from water, hiking and canicross suit it.
Kailio priežiūra
Weekly brushing and occasional hand-stripping of dead hair keep the wire coat in shape. Check the beard and ears after outings.
Dresūra
Bright and capable but needs a confident, consistent handler. Use reward-based training and plenty of socialisation.
Sveikata
Hip and elbow dysplasia, eye conditions and von Willebrand disease type 2 are known in the breed. Ask the breeder for hip, elbow, eye and DNA results of the parents.

Apie veislę
The German Wirehaired Pointer, or Deutsch Drahthaar, was developed in Germany from the late 19th century as a do-everything hunting dog: pointing, retrieving from land and water, tracking wounded game and dealing with vermin. Breeders combined several wire-coated pointing dogs, and selection has always focused on working tests.
It is tough, intelligent and devoted to its own people, often more reserved and watchful with strangers than other pointers. It needs a lot of exercise and real tasks. In the right active home, especially a hunting one, it is a capable and loyal partner.

The Deutsch Drahthaar is one of the most numerous hunting dog breeds in Germany.
