Friendly, alert and playful, with a balanced mix of independence and willingness to please. It is watchful and will bark at visitors, then usually settles quickly.

Around an hour of daily activity keeps it content, and it enjoys agility, rally, scent work and long walks with plenty to sniff.

The short, smooth coat is easy to care for with a weekly brush, though it sheds steadily.

The breed is considered generally healthy, with occasional hip dysplasia and patellar luxation. Ask the breeder for hip and knee results on both parents.

Tõust
For generations this little dog lived on farms in Denmark and southern Sweden, keeping rats and mice under control, giving warning of visitors and sometimes helping move livestock. It was only recognised as a breed in the late twentieth century, when the two countries began registering it jointly.
It is a practical, adaptable companion: lively and curious outdoors, relaxed and affectionate at home. It enjoys being involved in family life and usually gets on well with children and other dogs. Owners should expect a busy mind and a keen interest in anything that rustles or runs.
