Sobre la raza

The Istrian Coarse-haired Hound comes from the Istrian peninsula in Croatia, where it was bred alongside its short-haired relative. Its harsh, slightly bristly coat protects it in the stony, thorny scrub of the region, and it is somewhat bigger and heavier than the short-haired form.

It is used mainly for fox and hare, and sometimes for wild boar, working with a deep voice and great persistence. Most dogs live with hunters. At home it is usually quiet and attached to its owner, but it is not a natural city dog and needs plenty of time outside following its nose.

¿Sabías que…?

The Istrian hound comes in two FCI-recognised coat varieties, short-haired and coarse-haired, each with its own standard.
