Loyal, alert and hard-working, with strong guarding and herding instincts. It is often wary of strangers.

Needs an hour or two of activity daily. Herding, agility, swimming, retrieving and scent work all suit it.

The coat is not brushed; it is clipped evenly all over a few times a year. Rinse after swimming and check for debris.

O plemene
The Spanish Water Dog has long been used in southern Spain, particularly Andalusia, to herd sheep and goats and to help fishermen in coastal areas. It is a versatile working dog with a woolly, curly coat that can form cords if left long.
It is very devoted to its family and often reserved or suspicious with strangers, so thorough socialisation from puppyhood matters. It is clever, active and quick to react, and it needs both exercise and mental work. In the right home it is a loyal, hard-working companion that enjoys almost any activity with its owner.
