Starostlivosť
Povaha
Podengos are lively, alert and loyal, with an independent hunting mind. They make good watchdogs and can be wary of strangers.
Pohyb
Allow an hour or more a day of walks, running and games. Scent work, lure coursing and agility suit them.
Starostlivosť o srsť
Smooth and wire coats both need only weekly brushing; there is no undercoat in the wire coat to strip. Shedding is moderate.
Výcvik
They learn quickly with rewards but get bored easily. Practise recall early and in safe places.
Zdravie
Podengos are generally robust; patellar luxation (mainly in the small size), hip dysplasia and some eye conditions are seen. Ask the breeder for hip, knee and eye results.

O plemene
The Portuguese Podengo is an old hunting breed from Portugal, used to find rabbits and other game by sight, scent and hearing. It comes in three sizes, small, medium and large, and in smooth or wire coats. The figures here describe the medium size; the small is around 20–30 cm tall and the large up to about 70 cm.
Podengos are alert, active and affectionate with their family, often watchful with strangers. They are bright and curious, and without enough to do they find their own entertainment. A secure garden is important because the hunting drive is strong.
