Starostlivosť

Povaha

Confident, calm and loyal, the Chart Polski is reserved with strangers and can be quite protective. It is independent and needs clear, fair leadership.

Pohyb

Long daily walks plus frequent free running in a secure area are needed. It enjoys lure coursing and long hikes.

Starostlivosť o srsť

The elastic, slightly harsh coat needs a weekly brush. It sheds more when the winter undercoat comes out.

Výcvik

Intelligent but independent, it needs consistent, reward-based training and good early socialisation, especially with strangers and other dogs.

Zdravie

The Chart Polski is considered robust, though heart disease and hip problems are reported occasionally, as in other large sighthounds. Ask the breeder for hip and heart results on the parents.

O plemene

The Chart Polski has been used in Poland for coursing hare, fox and even wolf for centuries, and it appears in old Polish hunting art and literature. After the Second World War it nearly disappeared, and breeders in the 1970s and 1980s rebuilt it from the remaining dogs.

It is a big, strong dog with real stamina. At home it is calm and affectionate, but it is more assertive and protective than most sighthounds and needs an experienced, steady owner. It needs regular running in secure areas and is generally not safe with small animals.

Viete, že…?

Dogs of Chart Polski type appear in 17th- and 18th-century Polish hunting scenes, long before the breed was formally recognised.
