Sobre a raça
The Tyrolean Hound comes from the Tyrol in the Austrian Alps, where hounds of this kind were used for centuries to hunt hare and fox and to track wounded game in rough mountain terrain. The breed standard was set in the late 19th century.
It is a robust, medium-sized hound with a dense coat that copes with snow and cold, usually red or black-and-red, often with white markings. It is friendly and calm at home and very hardworking outdoors. It is still kept mostly by hunters and needs plenty of exercise and something useful to do with its nose.
Sabia que…?
Emperor Maximilian I is said to have favoured hounds of this type for hunting in Tyrol around 1500.
