Cuidados

Temperamento

Loyal, protective and alert, it is devoted to family and suspicious of strangers. It can be territorial and dog-selective.

Exercício

About an hour of daily walks and play suits it, with mental work such as scent games or obedience.

Cuidados com o pelo

The thick double coat needs brushing a few times a week and more during shedding.

Treino

It is intelligent but strong-minded; calm, consistent, reward-based training and early socialisation help it handle visitors well.

Saúde

There is little published breed-specific health data; hip and elbow dysplasia are the usual screening concerns. Ask the breeder for hip and elbow results.

Exames de saúde que os criadores costumam fazer

  • Ancas (HD)
  • Cotovelos (ED)

Peça ao criador que lhe mostre os resultados dos pais.

Sobre a raça

The Bangkaew comes from the village of Bang Kaeo in Phitsanulok province, central Thailand. Local tradition links it to a cross between a temple dog and a wild jackal-like canine in the early twentieth century. It was developed into a guard dog and became a source of regional pride, and the FCI accepted it provisionally in 2011.

It is a watchful, loyal guardian that bonds strongly with its family and is wary of strangers. It can be territorial and assertive with other dogs. Despite its thick coat, it copes with tropical heat, though it needs shade and care in hot weather.
