Temperamento
Rough Collies are gentle, loyal and kind. They are often a little reserved with strangers but rarely aggressive. They are sensitive and respond poorly to harsh treatment.
Exercício
About an hour a day of walks and play keeps them fit and content. They enjoy rally, obedience, herding and gentle agility.
Cuidados com o pelo
Brush the dense coat thoroughly a few times a week, paying attention behind the ears and in the trousers. Shedding is heavy at coat changes.
Treino
Willing and quick to learn with kind, reward-based methods. Early socialisation and a quiet cue help with shyness and barking.
Saúde
Collie eye anomaly, progressive retinal atrophy and MDR1 drug sensitivity are known in the breed, along with occasional skin conditions. Breeding dogs are usually eye examined and DNA tested, so ask the breeder for results.

Sobre a raça
The Rough Collie descends from the working sheepdogs of Scotland. In the 19th century it caught the eye of Queen Victoria and fanciers, who refined it into the elegant long-coated dog seen today. Films and books about Lassie later made it one of the best-known breeds in the world.
Modern Rough Collies are gentle, sensitive and closely bonded to their families. They are less driven than working-line herding breeds and usually settle well indoors, but they still need daily exercise and companionship. The coat is beautiful but takes regular care, and many collies are vocal.
