Sobre a raça

The Segugio Italiano is an old Italian scent hound, with ancestors often linked to the hunting hounds of antiquity. It comes in two varieties, short-haired and rough-haired, which the FCI now treats as separate breeds. This is the rough-haired form, with a harsh coat that protects it in dense undergrowth.

In Italy it is a popular hunting dog, especially for hare and wild boar, and it is known for a melodious voice. At home it tends to be gentle and quiet with its people. It needs plenty of exercise and scent work and is best suited to rural, active homes.

Sabia que…?

The short-haired and rough-haired Segugio are registered by the FCI under separate breed numbers.
