Opieka

Charakter

Parsons are lively, fearless and friendly, with a strong working drive. They are affectionate with their people but rarely calm without enough activity.

Ruch

Expect at least an hour of running, walking and games each day. They excel at agility, earthdog trials, flyball and long country hikes.

Pielęgnacja

Both smooth and rough coats need a weekly brush; rough coats benefit from occasional hand-stripping. They shed moderately.

Szkolenie

Quick learners who get bored with repetition; keep training varied, short and rewarding. Recall is the hardest skill because of their hunting drive.

Zdrowie

Primary lens luxation, deafness, patellar luxation and inherited ataxias are known in the breed. Ask the breeder for eye, hearing and DNA results.

O rasie

The Parson Russell Terrier takes its name from the Reverend John Russell, a hunting parson in Devon in the 19th century, who bred white terriers long-legged enough to follow foxhounds and small enough to bolt a fox from its earth. The FCI recognised the taller, squarer type as a separate breed from the Jack Russell.

A Parson is bright, bold and always ready to do something. It thrives in an active home with plenty of exercise and things to think about. Without that, it tends to dig, bark and invent its own jobs. Strong prey drive means secure fencing and careful recall are a must.

Czy wiesz, że…?

John Russell's first terrier was a white and tan bitch called Trump, said to have been bought from a milkman in Oxford around 1819.
