Opieka
Charakter
Calm, balanced and affectionate with those it knows. Wary of strangers and decisive when it perceives a threat to its flock or family.
Ruch
It needs daily walks and room to patrol rather than intensive exercise. Outdoor space on a farm or large property suits it best.
Pielęgnacja
The thick coat needs a weekly brush and extra attention during the seasonal moult.
Szkolenie
Independent and slow to obey for the sake of it; use patient, consistent handling and start socialisation early.
Zdrowie
As a giant breed it can be affected by hip and elbow dysplasia, and puppies need slow, careful growth. Ask the breeder for hip and elbow results on both parents.

O rasie
This livestock guardian comes from Trás-os-Montes in north-eastern Portugal, where shepherds have long relied on it to protect sheep and goats from wolves. It works with the flock day and night, often in groups, and still does that job in its home region today.
In a family setting it is calm, patient and affectionate, but it remains a working guardian with strong territorial instincts and little interest in strangers. Its size alone means it needs space, secure fencing and an owner with experience of large dogs. It is best suited to rural homes, ideally with animals to watch over.
Czy wiesz, że…?
The FCI recognised the breed on a provisional basis in 2020, listing its official English name as Transmontano Mastiff.
