Priežiūra

Temperamentas

Calm, loyal and affectionate with its family, the Magyar Agár is reserved with strangers and can be quietly protective. It is good-natured but not a pushover.

Judėjimas

Long daily walks plus regular free running in a fenced area suit it. It enjoys lure coursing and can make a steady jogging or cycling partner once mature.

Kailio priežiūra

The short coat needs only a weekly brush; it sheds a little more when the winter undercoat comes out.

Dresūra

Fairly cooperative for a sighthound, it responds well to consistent, positive training. Recall around game is never fully reliable.

Sveikata

The Magyar Agár is considered a robust breed with few widespread problems, though hip dysplasia and heart issues occur occasionally, as in other large dogs. Ask the breeder for hip and heart results on the parents.

Apie veislę

The Hungarian Greyhound, or Magyar Agár, is believed to have come to the Carpathian Basin with the Magyar tribes in the late ninth century. It was used for coursing hare and fox over long distances, and is built for stamina as much as speed.

It is a sturdier, more weatherproof sighthound than the Greyhound, with a slightly denser coat in winter. At home it is calm and affectionate, and it is a better watchdog than most sighthounds. It still needs regular chances to run and a secure garden, as the chase instinct is strong.

Ar žinojote?

The breed is known for its endurance and was traditionally expected to course hares over long distances rather than only in short sprints.
