Priežiūra

Temperamentas

Bergamascos are calm, patient and observant. They are loyal to family and usually reserved but polite with strangers. They tend to solve problems on their own.

Judėjimas

An hour or so of daily walks and play suits most adults. Hiking, herding and scent work are good activities.

Kailio priežiūra

While the flocks form, roughly between one and three years of age, the mats must be split by hand; after that the coat needs little attention beyond occasional washing. It sheds very little.

Dresūra

Intelligent and cooperative but independent. Calm, consistent, reward-based training works best.

Sveikata

The Bergamasco is generally healthy; hip and elbow dysplasia are occasionally seen. Breeding dogs are usually hip screened, so ask the breeder for results.

Apie veislę

The Bergamasco comes from the Alps around Bergamo in northern Italy, where it worked with shepherds who moved their flocks between valleys and high summer pastures. It had to make its own decisions while working, which still shows in its thoughtful, independent nature.

Its most striking feature is the coat, which forms flat, felted mats called flocks. At home the Bergamasco is calm, patient and affectionate, and it tends to be watchful rather than noisy. It needs daily exercise and company, and the coat requires work during its first couple of years.

Ar žinojote?

The Bergamasco's felted flocks keep growing for years and may only reach the ground at around five or six years of age.
