관리

기질

Glens are loyal, good-natured and quieter than most terriers. They are brave and determined when roused and can be selective about other dogs.

운동

Moderate daily walks and play are enough for most adults. Avoid lots of jumping and stairs in young dogs; scent work and steady walks suit them well.

그루밍

The harsh coat needs weekly brushing and hand-stripping two or three times a year. Shedding is low when the coat is kept stripped.

훈련

They learn well with food rewards and patience but think for themselves. Keep sessions short and start socialisation with dogs early.

건강

A form of progressive retinal atrophy (CRD3), hip and elbow dysplasia and some back problems linked to the long, low build are known. Ask the breeder for DNA, hip and elbow results.

견종 소개

The Glen of Imaal Terrier comes from a remote valley in County Wicklow, Ireland, where farmers kept it to control vermin and, by tradition, to work turnspits in the kitchen. It was recognised by the Irish Kennel Club in 1934 and remained rare for most of the 20th century.

The Glen is a big dog on short legs: heavy-boned, strong and surprisingly calm indoors. It barks less than many terriers and is often happy to lounge once exercised. It can be stubborn and, like many terriers, may not tolerate other dogs that challenge it, so introductions need care.

알고 계셨나요?

Glens are thought to have been used to turn roasting spits in Irish farm kitchens, running in a wheel connected to the spit.
