견종 소개
The Garafian Shepherd comes from Garafía, a rural district in the north of La Palma in the Canary Islands, where it herded goats on steep volcanic slopes. Crossbreeding with imported shepherd dogs threatened the type in the 1980s, and local breeders began recovering it; Spain's kennel club later recognised it.
It is a lively, hardy working dog with a strong bond to its family. It is alert and somewhat reserved with strangers, and it needs regular activity and a job to do. It remains rare outside the Canary Islands, so prospective owners should expect to search for a breeder.
