Umhirða
Skapgerð
Gentle, even-tempered and affectionate with family. It can be reserved with strangers at first and has a mild independent streak.
Hreyfing
About an hour or more a day of walking, free running and sniffing keeps it content. Scent games, retrieving and canicross or hiking suit it well.
Feldhirða
The long, sleek coat needs a weekly brush and extra attention during seasonal shedding. No clipping or trimming is needed.
Þjálfun
Learns readily but shuts down with harsh corrections, so use calm, reward-based training. Recall needs steady practice because of its hunting instinct.
Heilsa
Hip and elbow dysplasia, epilepsy and some eye conditions are known in this small population, so careful breeding matters. Ask the breeder for hip and elbow scores and any eye results.

Um tegundina
The Stabyhoun comes from Friesland in the northern Netherlands, where farmers kept an all-round dog that could point and retrieve game, catch moles and rats, and watch the yard. It remained a local breed for a long time and is still fairly rare outside the Netherlands.
At home it is usually quiet, friendly and closely tied to its people, without the restless edge of some gundogs. It enjoys long walks and something to do with its nose, then settles well indoors. It can be sensitive and a little stubborn, so it responds best to patient, gentle handling. Many live happily as family dogs with no hunting work at all.
Vissir þú?
Frisian farmers valued the Stabyhoun not only for hunting but also as a mole and rat catcher around the farm.
