Umhirða

Skapgerð

Gentle, affectionate and calm, sociable with people and dogs, and stubborn when following a scent.

Hreyfing

Needs daily walks of an hour or so with time to sniff; scent work and tracking suit it well, but avoid lots of jumping.

Feldhirða

The short coat needs only a weekly brush; clean ears often and check for skin folds.

Þjálfun

Responds well to food rewards and patience; it can be stubborn, so keep sessions short.

Heilsa

Its long back and short legs can predispose it to disc problems, and long ears to infections; keeping it lean helps. Spine and eye checks are sensible, so ask the breeder for results.

Um tegundina

The Basset Artésien Normand was developed in northern France in the late 19th century from older short-legged hounds of Artois and Normandy. It was used to hunt rabbit and hare in dense cover, and was among the French bassets that went to Britain and helped shape the Basset Hound.

It is a calm, affectionate dog with a long body, short legs and long, soft ears. Many live happily as family companions, provided they get regular walks and plenty of chances to sniff. It is vocal and very scent-led, so a secure garden and a lead in open areas are needed.

Vissir þú?

It is considered one of the ancestors of the British Basset Hound.
