Pag-aalaga
Ugali
Groenendaels are alert, affectionate and closely bonded to their people. They are often reserved with strangers and can be protective. They are sensitive and do not cope well with harsh treatment or long isolation.
Ehersisyo
Allow at least an hour and a half of daily activity, including off-lead running and training. Obedience, agility, herding and tracking are good choices.
Grooming
Brush the long black coat a few times a week, paying attention to the ruff and trousers. Shedding is heavy at seasonal coat changes.
Pagsasanay
Eager and quick to learn, and best motivated with rewards and play. Early socialisation helps balance its natural watchfulness.
Kalusugan
Groenendaels are generally healthy, but hip and elbow dysplasia, epilepsy, hypothyroidism and some eye conditions occur. Breeding dogs are usually hip, elbow and eye screened, so ask the breeder for results.

Tungkol sa lahi
The Groenendael traces back to Nicolas Rose, who bred long-haired black shepherd dogs at his Château Groenendael near Brussels in the 1890s. His dogs became the foundation of this striking all-black variety, which has since worked as a herding, police and search dog.
The Groenendael is often seen as slightly softer in temperament than the Malinois, but it is still a lively, sensitive working breed. It wants to be with its family, takes part in everything and needs daily mental and physical outlets. Owners who enjoy training and outdoor life tend to find it a deeply loyal companion.
Alam mo ba?
The variety is named after Château Groenendael, the estate near Brussels where Nicolas Rose bred the first long-haired black Belgians.
