Volpinos are lively, loyal and watchful, affectionate with family and often reserved with strangers. They are quick to bark.
Liikumine
Two short walks a day and some play suit most adults. They enjoy trick training and small-dog agility.
Karvahooldus
The stand-off double coat needs brushing a few times a week and more during shedding.
Koolitus
They are bright and responsive to rewards. Work on calm behaviour and a quiet cue from puppyhood.
Tervis
Primary lens luxation, cataract and patellar luxation are known. Ask the breeder for eye, knee and DNA results.

Tõust
The Volpino Italiano is a small spitz that has lived in Italy for centuries, kept in palaces as a companion and on farms and carts as a watchdog. It became very rare in the 20th century and was revived from the 1980s by Italian breeders working with the remaining dogs.
Volpinos are cheerful, affectionate and alert. They bond closely with their people and suit flats well, but they bark readily at sounds and visitors. They enjoy play and training and do not need long walks, though they appreciate daily outings and company.

The Volpino nearly disappeared in the 20th century; in 1965 only a handful were registered, before a recovery programme began in the 1980s.
