Cuidados

Carácter

Loyal, courageous and dignified, devoted to family but cautious with strangers. Sensitive to tone and handling.

Ejercicio

Moderate daily walks of 30 to 60 minutes are enough; avoid lots of jumping and stair climbing.

Aseo

The long, straight coat needs thorough brushing a few times a week and sheds moderately.

Educación

Learns with gentle, positive and consistent methods. Early socialisation helps with its natural wariness.

Salud

Its long back makes it prone to disc problems, and premature closure of growth plates in the front legs (sometimes called Skye limp) can occur. Ask the breeder about health checks on both parents.

Pruebas de salud que suelen hacer los criadores

  • Examen ocular

Sobre la raza

The Skye Terrier comes from the Isle of Skye and the western isles of Scotland, where it hunted foxes and otters among the rocks. It became fashionable in Victorian times and is now rare, with very few puppies born each year.

It is a devoted, sensitive dog that forms a strong bond with its family and tends to be wary of strangers. Calm indoors and content with moderate exercise, it suits a quieter home. Its long coat is beautiful but takes regular care, and its long back means stairs and jumping should be limited, especially in puppies.
