Sobre la raza

The Icelandic Sheepdog arrived with Viking settlers more than a thousand years ago and became the island's farm dog, gathering sheep and ponies in the mountains and announcing visitors from afar. It was close to extinction in the twentieth century before dedicated breeders rebuilt the population.

This is a sociable, cheerful and very people-oriented dog. It greets strangers warmly, enjoys children and other pets, and wants to be included in daily life. It barks readily, especially when excited or watching the yard. Given company, exercise and a little work for its brain, it is an easy, joyful companion.

¿Sabías que…?

Icelandic Sheepdogs often have double dewclaws on their hind legs, a feature mentioned in the breed standard.
