Temperament
Happy, fearless and affectionate, with a less quarrelsome nature than many terriers. Curious and determined when hunting.
Oefening
Daily walks of about an hour and play suit it; it enjoys exploring, scent work and earthdog-style games.

Brush weekly and hand-strip the coat a couple of times a year; shedding is light.
Opleiding
Responds to positive training but may switch off when it finds something more interesting. Recall is often a weak point.
Gesondheid
Upper airway problems, patellar luxation, back problems and difficult births are known in the breed. Ask the breeder for knee, eye and heart results and how airway health is assessed.

Oor die ras
The Norwich Terrier comes from East Anglia, where small, game terriers were kept around stables and farms to control rats and accompany hunts. In its early days it was popular with students at Cambridge University, giving it a lively reputation.
It is a cheerful, sociable dog that usually gets on well with people and other dogs. Despite its small size it is robust and adventurous, happy to go on long walks and investigate every hedge. It is affectionate at home and wants company, so it is not a dog to be left alone for long periods.

Norwich Terriers have prick ears and Norfolk Terriers have drop ears; the two were split into separate breeds by the Kennel Club in 1964.
